Dewpoint Sponsors 2020 Girls Field Trip

Dewpoint Sponsors 2020 Girls Field Trip

September 24, 2019

Dewpoint hosted ITEC 2020 Girls Club for a field trip at the Dewpoint Headquarters in the Knapp’s Building in downtown Lansing. ITEC’s goal is to inspire girls to pursue studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Dewpoint was proud to host these girls and show them the possibilities of a career in technology.

Sherri Jones (from WLNS) kicked the field trip off by talking about her career and how she was able to break down barriers to get to where she is now. She spoke about how people told her she couldn’t do certain things because she was a woman and how she overcame adversity to become the successful woman that she is today. Currently, Sherri Jones anchors the 6 pm and 11 pm for WLNS and leads its Crimestoppers Program. She has also been inducted into the Michigan Association Broadcasters Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

While the girls were at Dewpoint, they made toothbrush robots to race t and battle against each other. They learned the dynamics of making a paper airplane and launched them from the 3rd floor, with prizes for the longest flight.  Lastly, the girls participated in an EmpowHer session to embrace their strengths and differences and build their self-confidence.  We are excited to host the 2020 Girls Club next year and can’t wait to see where these girls are headed. We know their future is bright!
