OCM is the process project teams use to manage the people side of system, process, and organizational change. OCM aims to help employees transition from the current state of operations to the future state. When done correctly, OCM increases organizational change capacity and accelerates organizational changes.
Change can be difficult for employees and lead to resistance. OCM helps manage resistance and make the transition smoother. Proactive employee support helps them see why a change is happening, what is expected of them, and how it will benefit the organization. By embracing effective Change Management, initiatives are six times more likely to meet or exceed objectives.
Managing change can be expensive; so, OCM helps minimize disruptions to business operations, saving organizations money and avoiding negative impacts on customers. OCM can also improve employee engagement and productivity, increasing efficiency and profitability. Finally, by equipping employees with the skills and resources to adapt to change, an organization can reduce employee turnover rates and the costs associated with recruiting and training.
Implementing OCM can deliver other benefits for organizations. Here are three of the most important:
Employees may resist change for several reasons, including the fear of the unknown. OCM helps to illustrate what changes are coming and why they will benefit the organization. By proactively communicating with employees, organizations can reduce anxiety and build acceptance.
Effective communication is critical in business, and even more so during change. OCM helps to improve communication between employees and management. Clear communication with impacted employees and listening to their feedback ensures everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals.
OCM encourages employee engagement and being active in the change process, demonstrating that an organization values and respects them. Engagement and communication help build a culture of trust and cooperation, making employees more likely to work collaboratively with each other.
